Optimizing Bandwidth for Meetings and Webinars
If you're doing a lot things on your computer or have a busy home with multiple people online at once, you may not be getting your full bandwidth while using Meetn. This can cause anything from poor video or audio performance to simply being unable to connect at the worst.
Home Users
Home networks are usually not prepared for heavy traffic from multiple devices simultaneously. Usually your router (the device that manages your home network) will simply give all the bandwidth to which ever device takes it.
For example, if someone is downloading or uploading a lot of files or a large file (downloading games, watching 4K Netflix movies, uploading cloud backups, etc), that user may soak up all the bandwidth and your connection to Meetn becomes unstable. That's one example, but there are a million scenarios that can cause this result.
What you'll want to do is set up QoS, or Quality of Service, which is a feature that routers have to balance internet traffic among all the users. The way to do this is different for every router brand, and even among models within a brand. So you'll have to look up the specific instructions.
👉 Tech Tip: ChatGPT 4o and later models are usually pretty good at finding these instruction documents online for you and making a step by step guide to enable QoS.
Office Users
Office networks are typically more stable, but also you may not be able to manage settings yourself. Unfortunately there's not much we can write here to help you out with this environment. You'll need to consult your network administrator or IT department to investigate bandwidth issues within the office.
